FRIDA – A Homage to the Icon of Self-Stylization
The FRIDA glass object is a handcrafted light sculpture from the Borowski special edition ODD BIRDS. With FRIDA, Borowski has created a glass light object that humorously translates the unmistakable personality of artist Frida Kahlo into the form of the popular Borowski bird FAT GONZO. The colorful flowers on the head recall her famous floral adornments, with which she turned her own appearance into a living work of art. The radiant colors of the glass body mirror the expressive palette of her paintings, in which pain, passion, and joy are deeply intertwined. Thus, the bird figure becomes a playful parody that simultaneously expresses respect and admiration for the charismatic painter.
FRIDA as a Design Element for Home and Garden
In her paintings, Frida Kahlo often incorporated the typical flora and fauna of Mexico, turning them into symbols of her deep bond with her homeland. The vivid colors in her works reflect the vibrancy, sensuality, and diversity of Mexican culture. The bright hues of the FRIDA glass object, its opulent flowers, and its joyful playfulness take up these Mexican roots and translate them into glass. Frida Kahlo’s proud and colorful self-stylization with traditional clothing and flowers finds in this object a humorous yet respectful reference. As such, the FRIDA light object brings Mexican flair into home and garden, transforming its surroundings into a stage full of vitality and character.
